I think it’s time to dig up old Victorian dead people names
Before you add a Y or a GH or an EH to that already-popular name, dooming your baby to a lifetime of typos, misspellings, and prolonged government phone calls, consider if you would:
trust me stormclan’s folly is so much more fun if you stop thinking about christianity and start thinking about greek mythology. look. recently people complain about starclan being more like a 6th clan with power to punish and that’s kind of the vibe the greek pantheon brings to the table as well, and the sort of hubris stormclan displays is the type they talk about in greek tragedy. there are tons of ancient greek stories about gods being upset about the most stupid things and taking it out on people, like with arachne. think about the odyssey. we love odyssey. misfortune after misfortune partially because poseidon is really mad at odysseus and declared he’d take forever to get home and partially because his men are dumb as hell and keep making things worse, though in this case it’s mostly stripestar making things worse not the cats he’s leading. even the part where stoneteller gives them guidance reminded me of the odyssey- not everyone was mad at odysseus, and some godly beings and dead prophets tried to guide him even though they couldn’t really get around poseidon’s plans. determinism is also not a christian concept. oedipus rex exists, which is not about what you might think it’s about and is instead about a man meeting his destiny on the road he took to avoid it. you may notice there’s something these two greek stories have in common: the blind prophet, tiresias. warriors also notably has a blind prophet. I rest my case
There’s something about the fact that the Tribe of Endless Hunting seemed welcoming and wished to guide StormClan away from their terrible fate, and the wildcat ancestors accepted Gale Rise and her kits as their own. Gale, in turn, was respectful of their cultures, which I’m sure helped. But it almost makes me think that the authors do write StarClan to be absolutely fucked on purpose. They juxtaposed Gale Rise feeling warm and safe and loved with her new people and new name with Stripebark in the deepest pits of self-loathing getting yelled at by the living and being LITERALLY CURSED by StarClan. The dream (of the books actually intentionally acknowledging how much StarClan sucks) isn’t dead and that’s what keeps readers coming back isn’t it
